VIENTIANE, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- A convoy of vehicles carrying over 270 people will travel across the country to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Lao People's Army and promote tourism, according to state-run daily Vientiane Times on Thursday.
The convoy carrying members of various government offices and businesses left Lao capital Vientiane Wednesday bound for Xieng Khuang and Huaphan provinces.
Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly was on hand in the early hours of the morning to officially open the tour that's hoped to promote tourism in the north of the country and pay tribute to Lao people who fought in the revolutionary period.
